Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz 2019 - Woman Revenge

ENGLISH EDITION - The beginning of the year is now white for me. Precious as an empty sheet of paper, on which to write the stories of what will come, clear and exciting as St. Moritz, which perhaps most of all, represents for me the place of hope for a beautiful and bright future to try to reach. St. Moritz is magical and special, unique in its kind, because it is located in the heart of Europe and around which it gathers, and it is what makes it exclusive, life and luxurious in contact with the nature of an apparently normal world.

On Sunday 27th I reached the Maloia pass while the snow was falling abundantly throughout the valley. Everything around it had become white and the streets, the houses, the trees and the lake of ice, which alone is worth the pleasure of a trip, have turned into a living postcard where the snow has become the protagonist of a pictorial drawing, in which the landscape has immersed me in an unreal dimension. The sky, the mountain and the silence are colors that wrap you among them, while the snowflakes, like confetti carried by the wind, transform the woods into a giant candyfloss, in which you want to dive forgetting the Wildlife spirit that the mountain hides.

The white here is everything: it is a canvas in which the game of the Polo, becomes a wonderful living painting where every horse turns into a work of art of nature itself. Lifting the snow during their endless gallops, they show all their beauty in the muscles in tension with which they celebrate the majesty of the mountain.  The Snow Polo World Cup tournament has been held here on the roof of the world for 35 years. This year's four teams competed for a trophy, which has been the undisputed domain of the Maison Cartier for years.

Teams of The Badrutt's Palace, Maserati and Azerbaijan Land of Fire challenged the Cartier team for the victory, that here in St Moritz is equivalent to a Luxury that only a few can afford. It is no coincidence that Maserati has married this event for years, turning it into the banner of charm and exclusivity that this tournament represents. The sinuous forms of its true sporting nature, despite the victory of the Badrutt's Palace team, have excelled in this wonder of the winter world. On Sunday, the final was played by Badrutt's Palace and the Maserati teams, who created an epic battle on a magical day, when snow fell abundantly throughout the race.

I have seen these wonderful animals run, fight and struggle, to conquer, together with their riders, a victory at two thousand meters on the roof of the world. Much more like some Gladiators, they fought a no hold barred game and with so hard physical clashes, that you could perceive how it could be 500 years ago a battle between "real" knights in a real battlefield where victory meant their survival. Instead of swords, I saw long wooden hammers spinning, I saw races, clashes, hand-to-hand combat and I saw horses and riders fall on the snow, to chase a victory that seemed difficult to achieve under the pressing snow.

A long battle that ended with the 7 to 3 for Badrutt's Palace which thus achieved a record-breaking victory as it was the first of a team led by an Amazon, Melissa Ganzi, a woman at the head of a team, who was able to give the best of herself. It's the first time in the history of the Snow Polo World Cup in St. Moritz that, after 35 years, a team led by a woman has won and this says a lot about how this victory will remain forever in the history of this tournament.

A great sporting event in which professional players such as the Argentine Juan Martin Nero, the third professional player classified in the World Polo Tour, together with non-professionals such as the American Melissa Ganzi, runned on the frozen lake, and fighted for victory. The three days of the tournament took place from the 25th to the 27th of January, and it was also a succession of events and dinners in black tie, trips around the mountain in sleds on the snow, and dance floor culminated in the end of tournament party at Badrutt's Palace.

A record audience of 18,000 spectators completed the magic of a unique event that  turned into a memorable feast on the snow that - among rivers of champagne, cigars, sweets, the VIP lounge where guests could spend so many hours together - proved to be the ideal place to enjoy this incredible spectacle of winter sports. A dreamy day celebrated in the snow, which gave me unforgettable moments.

A big and sincere wish to Badrutt's Palace team that, with its memorable victory, is an incentive for all the other teams to give us a Snow Polo World Cup 2020 even more exciting.

Domenica 27 sono giunta sul passo del Maloia mentre la neve scendeva copiosa in tutta la valle. Tutto intorno era diventato bianco e le strade, le case, gli alberi e il lago di ghiaccio, che da solo vale il piacere di un viaggio, si sono trasformate in una cartolina vivente dove la neve è divenuta protagonista di un disegno pittorico, in cui il paesaggio mi ha immerso in una dimensione irreale. Il cielo, la montagna e il silenzio sono colori che ti avvolgono, tra loro, mentre i fiocchi di neve, come coriandoli portati dal vento, trasformano i boschi in un gigantesco zucchero filato, in cui ti viene voglia di tuffarsi dimenticandoti lo spirito Wildlife che la montagna nasconde.

Il bianco qui è tutto: è una tela in cui il gioco del Polo, diventa un meraviglioso dipinto vivente in cui ogni cavallo, si trasforma in una opera d’arte della natura stessa. Sollevando la neve durante le loro interminabili galoppate, mostrano tutta la loro bellezza nei muscoli in tensione con cui celebrano la maestosità della montagna.  Il torneo Snow POlo World Cup è un evento che ormai si celebra da 35 anni, qui sul tetto del mondo. I quattro team di quest’anno, hanno gareggiato per la vittoria di un trofeo, che ormai da anni è stato dominio indiscusso della Maison Cartier.

Il Badrutt’s Palace Team, il Maserati Team insieme a quello dell’Azerbaijan Land of Fire, hanno sfidato il team Cartier per la vittoria che qui, a St Moritz, equivale ad un Lusso che solo pochi possono permettersi. Non a caso forse Maserati da anni ha sposato questo evento trasformandolo nella bandiera del fascino e della esclusività che questo torneo rappresenta. Le forme sinuose della sua vera natura sportiva, nonostante la vittoria del team del Badrutt’s Palace, hanno primeggiato in questa meraviglia del mondo invernale. Domenica la finale è stata giocata proprio dal Badrutt’s Palace e Il team Maserati, che hanno dato vita ad una epica battaglia in una giornata magica in cui la neve è scesa abbondante per tutta la gara.

Ho visto correre, lottare e combattere questi meravigliosi animali, per conquistare insieme loro cavalieri una vittoria a due mila metri sul tetto se mondo. Molto più simili a dei Gladiatori si sono combattuti senza esclusione di colpi e con scontri fisici così duri, che si poteva percepire come poteva essere, 500 anni fa una battaglia fra cavalieri “veri” in veri un campo di battaglia in cui la vittoria significava la propria sopravvivenza. Al posto delle spade, ho visto roteare lunghi martelli di legno, ho visto corse, scontri, corpo a corpo e ho visto cadere sulla neve cavalli e cavalieri, per rincorrere una vittoria che sembrava difficile da raggiungere sotto la neve incalzante.

Una lunga battaglia che è terminata con il 7 a 3 per il Badrutt’s Palace che ha così realizzato una vittoria da record poichè è stata la prima di una squadra condotta da una amazzone, Melissa Ganzi, una donna alla testa di un team, che ha saputo dare il meglio di se. E’ La prima volta infatti che nella storia del Snow Polo World Cup Polo a St Moritz, dopo 35 anni, ha vinto una squadra capitanata da una donna e questo la dice lunga su come questa vittoria resterà per sempre nella storia di questo torneo.

Un grande evento sportivo in cui si sono visti insieme giocatori professionisti come l’argentino Juan Martin Nero, il terzo giocatore professionista classificato nel World Polo Tour, insieme a non professionisti come proprio l'americana Melissa Ganzi, correre sul lago ghiacciato, e combattere per la vittoria. La tre giorni del torneo è dal 25 al 27 è stato anche un susseguirsi di eventi e cene in black tie, gite intorno alla montagna in slitte sulle neve, e dance floor culminati nella festa di fine torneo al Badrutt’s Palace. 

Un pubblico record di 18.000 spettatori ha completato la magia di un evento unico nel suo genere che, si è trasformato, in una memorabile festa sulla neve dove, tra i fiumi di champagne, sigari, dolci strepitosi, la lounge vip in cui,gli ospiti, hanno potuto passare tante ore insieme, si è rivelato il luogo ideale per godere di questo incredibile spettacolo dello sport invernale. Un giorno da sogno, celebrato tra la neve, che mi ha regalato dei momenti indimenticabili.

Un grande e sincero augurio al Badrutt’s Palace che, con la sua memorabile vittoria, sia da sprone per tutti gli altri team a regalarci uno Snow Polo World Cup 2020 ancora più esaltante.
