ENGLISH EDITION - The Milan Furniture Fair has become the most important moment that Italy offers the world from a conceptual and practical point of view. Design, understood as creativity and the form of thought applied to the arts that becomes the solution to modern living, has nourished the spirit of man, evolving it towards an aesthetic, a synthesis of function and its forms in the complexity of our existence.

If you have never visited Milan during this period, you should know that, if you'll have the pleasure of coming to Milan on this occasion, you will need the entire time of the Design Week, in order to enjoy the immensity of human creative thought and how much it is able to achieve. Despite being the eye, the primordial element always active in this Milanese journey, even the touch, the sounds and the sense of smell, transform Milan into an "expo" of "Planetary" excellence that the city has never stopped celebrating from many years.

Design is such a vast word, that it pervades our lives, so much so that we now realize it only when the "ugly" makes us notice it. It has entered so deeply into our aesthetic language that we hardly notice it is much more: harmony, music, construction, synthesis and elaboration. It's a path that "beauty" goes through to reach our daily life, and that carries within itself the DNA of our desire to live, using the passion and emotion that fashion uses on our bodies, in our living spaces.

Design is a mental prosthesis of our "Way of Life", it determines the spirit and our daily life, with a visual education, which is a universal language that Milan can collect in this form so elaborate. Milan is a spectacle!!! An immense mass of hearts and brains that, as spring blooms, meet to inspire each other, revealing how "man" needs beauty to feed his life.

A unique context in the world, in short, which is the setting for unthinkable syntheses between art, culture, design, and construction skills. The memorable installation Audi E-domesticity, built and exhibited at the Arco della Pace in Milan, in the marvellous square that acts as a counterpoint to the Torre del Castello Sforzesco, is an example of this human evolution.

I have the pleasure and the good fortune to know personally the two creators, Hani Rashid and Lise Anne Couture, with whom I have lived the genesis of this ambitious project since it was only a thought expressed aloud during a meeting in St Moritz during the St Moritz Art Masters 2018 when, together with Giovanni Perosino, Audi Marketing Vice President, we discussed the frontiers of luxury and the evolution of this world in the future.

A passionate dialogue in which the different experiences of each guest there were mixed in a synthesis of thoughts that led to the birth of that possible collaboration between architecture and design, which materialized in this "work of art Audi" at the Arco della Pace, where the concept of luxury is concretized in the enjoyment of beauty in new forms.

And so, even if this wonderful space was born as a "concept" of an Audi charging station for the generation of E-Tron Audi, in reality it turned out to be a wonderful opportunity to show how design can become the synthesis of a musical and architectural harmony that is then the basis of our lives themselves.

As Hani explained "this architecture is a musical composition, which uses mathematics, form and space to construct a complementary and synergistic element to the Arco della Pace", in the same way as music does when it is performed by musicians. A wonderful encounter between music, mathematics, history and modernity has been built, producing something beautiful.

"Audi strongly wanted Asymptote Architecture (Lise Anne Couture and Hani Rashid) to be able to rethink all possible ways to regain the time spent recharging electric cars, as an opportunity to regenerate our bodies of which we may have lost consciousness. By now living on the screens of our devices, we are no longer users of the space in which we live and no longer live them consciously”.

"With this installation - added Luise Anne Couture - we wanted to make people more aware of their senses, and create an event that has to do with the senses and the sound of music".

"We combined soft and hard materials mixed with long-lasting materials, and each metal tube, from the larger ones to the smaller ones, was put together in a different way as if we had composed a piece of musical architecture, that was sublimated with a piano that plays in the square combining with everything. Music is mathematics, architecture is mathematics, they are both parts of the same world and it makes a lot of sense for us to put them together to produce this 'symphonic architecture' project for Audi.

A great project that saw its celebration on the night of April 9, 2019, in which the concert of Ludovico Einaudi, visualized in sounds this architectural design, in the amazement and in the general silence of a Square in front of the Arco della Pace, of about 7 thousand spectators, who were able to admire the past and the future in a breathtaking experience…

And mathematics, which seemed to be very far from the vibrations of those exciting notes, seemed alive and real, as if its music, the lights and the Audi installation had become its harmonic beauty. If during the concert, the silence that was released was so strong and imposing as to be able to listen to the clicks of the spectators' cameras, it means that Audi was able to strike deeply into the hearts of the spectators, and give a moment of wonderful harmony: the true spirit of Design Week in Milan.

My thanks to all the thinkers, creators and builders of this memorable Design Week, for having created together a memorable opportunity to represent the path towards which to look at the future of our horizons. A heartfelt thanks to Giovanni Perosino who, on behalf of Audi, had the sensitivity to understand and grasp the value of architecture as an integral element of Beauty, transforming a simple Audi electric charging station into a magnificent occasion that showed how the creative world of Design is part of our lives, as well as that of cars that are our first home towards a future yet to be explored.

Il design, inteso come creatività e forma del pensiero applicato alle arti che si fa soluzione del vivere moderno, ha alimentato lo spirito dell’uomo, evolvendolo verso una estetica, sintesi della funzione e delle sue forme nella complessità della nostra esistenza.

Se non vi è mai capitato di visitare Milano in questo periodo sappiate che, se avrete il piacere di venire a Milano in questa occasione, avrete bisogno di tutta la settimana del Design Week, per poter godere dell’immensità del pensiero creativo umano e di quanto esso sia capace di realizzare. Nonostante sia l’occhio, l’elemento primordiale sempre attivo in questo percorso Milanese, anche il tatto, i suoni e l’olfatto, trasformano Milano in una “expo” di eccellenze “Planetarie” che la città non smette mai di celebrare da tantissimi anni.

Il Design è una parola così vasta, che pervade le nostra vita, tanto che ce ne accorgiamo ormai, solo quando il “brutto” ce lo fa notare. Essa è entrata così profondamente, nel nostro linguaggio estetico, che non ci accorgiamo quasi più è molto di più: armonia, musica, costruzione, sintesi e elaborazione. E’ un percorso che la “bellezza” percorre per arrivare alla nostra vita quotidiana, e che porta in se’ il DNA del nostro desiderio di vivere, utilizzando la passione e l’emozione che il fashion utilizza sul nostro copro, nei nostri spazi di vita.

Il Design è una protesi mentale del nostro “Way of Life”, ne determina lo spirito e il nostro vivere quotidiano, con una educazione visiva, che è linguaggio universale che Milano sa raccogliere in questa forma così elaborata. Milano è uno spettacolo!!!! Una immensa massa di cuori e cervelli che, al fiorire della primavera, si incontrano per ispirarsi a vicenda, rivelando come “l’uomo” abbia bisogno di bellezza per nutrire la propria vita.

Un contesto unico al mondo, insomma, che fa da scenario a delle sintesi impensabili fra arte, cultura, design, e capacità costruttive. La memorabile installazione Audi E-domesticity, costruita ed esposta all’Arco della Pace di Milano, nella meravigliosa piazza che fa da controcanto alla Torre del Castello Sforzesco, è un esempio di questa evoluzione umana.

Ho il piacere e la fortuna di conoscere personalmente i due creatori, disegnata da Hani Rashid e Lise Anne Couture, con cui ho vissuto la genesi di questo ambizioso progetto sin da quando, esso stesso, era solo un pensiero espresso ad alta voce durante un incontro a St Moritz durante il St Moritz Art Masters 2018 quando, insieme a Giovanni Perosino, Marketing Vice President Audi, discutevamo sulle frontiere del lusso e sull’evoluzione di questo mondo nel futuro.

Un dialogo appassionato in cui le differenti esperienze, di ognuno ospite lì, si sono mescolate in una sintesi di pensieri che hanno portato alla nascita di quella possibile collaborazione fra architettura e design, concretizzatisi in questa “opera d’arte Audi” all’Arco della Pace, in cui il concetto di lusso si concretizza nel godere della bellezza in nuove declinazioni.

E cosi, anche se questo meraviglioso spazio, è nato come “concept” di una stazione di ricarica Audi per la generazione di E-Tron Audi, in realtà si è rivelato una meravigliosa occasione per mostrare come il design possa diventare la sintesi di un armonia musicale e architettonica che è poi alla base nostre vite stesse.

Come ha spiegato Hani “questa architettura è una composizione musicale, che usa la matematica la forma e lo spazio per costruire “un’elemento complementare e sinergetico all’Arco della Pace”, allo stesso modo di come fa la musica quando viene eseguita dai musicisti. Si è costruito un meraviglioso incontro fra la musica, la matematica, la storia, la modernità che ha prodotto qualcosa di bello.

“Audi ha voluto fortemente che Asymptote Architecture (Lise Anne Couture e Hani Rashid) potesse ripensare tutte le strade possibili per riconquistare il tempo speso per ricaricare le auto elettriche, come una occasione per rigenerare il nostro corpo di cui abbiamo forse perso coscienza. Vivendo ormai sempre sugli schermi dei nostri dispostivi, non siamo più fruitori dello spazio in cui viviamo e non li viviamo più in maniera cosciente.”

“Con questa installazione - ha aggiunto Luise Anne Couture - abbiamo voluto rendere le persone più consapevoli dei loro sensi, e realizzare un evento che ha a che fare con i sensi e con il suono della musica.”

Hani Rashid ha spiegato come la struttura “è nata dallo sviluppo di una combinazione di Anelli e tubi di acciaio, che ricreano una composizione musicale e architettonica dello spazio, cosi come i 4 anelli del logo Audi rappresentano lo spazio del pentagramma musicale in cui scrivere le note di una composizione musicale. “

“Abbiamo combinato materiali morbidi e duri mescolati con materiali di lunga durata, e ogni tubo di metallo, da quelli più grandi a quelli più piccoli, sono stati messi insieme in maniera differente come se avessimo composto un pezzo di architettura musicale che si è sublimata con un piano che suona nella piazza e che si combina con il tutto. La musica è matematica, l’architettura è matematica, sono entrambi parti dello stesso mondo e per noi ha molto senso metterli insieme per produrre questo progetto di “architettura sinfonica” per Audi”

Un grande progetto che ha visto la sua celebrazione nella notte del 9 aprile 2019, in cui il concerto di Ludovico Einaudi, ha visualizzato nei suoni questo disegno architettonico, nello stupore e nel silenzio generale di una Piazza antistante all’Arco della Pace, dei circa 7 mila spettatori, che hanno potuto ammirare il passato e il futuro in una esperienza mozzafiato.

E la matematica, che pareva essere lontanissima dalle vibrazioni di quelle note emozionanti, è sembrata viva e reale, come se, la sua musica, le luci e l’installazione Audi, siano divenute la sua bellezza armonica. Se durante il concerto, il silenzio che si e liberato, è stato così forte e imponente tanto da poter ascoltare i clic delle macchine fotografiche degli spettatori, vuol dire che Audi è riuscito a colpire a fondo nel cuore degli spettatori, e regalare un momento di meravigliosa armonia: il vero spirito della Design Week a Milano.

A tutti i pensatori, ai creatori e ai costruttori di questa memorabile Design Week va il mio grazie, per aver realizzato tutti insieme una memorabile occasione per rappresentare la strada verso cui guardare il futuro dei nostri orizzonti. Un sentito grazie a Giovanni Perosino che per conto di Audi ha avuto la sensibilità di capire e cogliere il valore dell’architettura come elemento integrante della Bellezza, trasformando una semplice stazione di ricarica elettrica Audi in una magnifica occasione che ha mostrato come il mondo creativo del Design fa parte nella nostra vita, così come quello delle auto che sono la nostra prima casa verso un futuro ancora da esplorare.
