MONTECARLO GALA 2020 FOR PLANETARY HEALTH

It seemed like a prophecy, and instead, it has always been just a simple observation:

The Planet needs to be saved.

Everyone can try to do something according to their possibilities, but Prince Albert of Monaco, who has long been dedicated to preserving the oceans and our planet, with his foundation today more than ever, is for me the symbol of this desire to offer oneself for a noble mission.

The Monte-Carlo Gala for Planetary Health 2020 dedicated to the Ocean, the earth, and humanity, is a memorable opportunity to think and do something useful for all this and I had the honor of participating in a Gala that still once surprised me and left me speechless.

The strength with which he managed to convey the commitment and hope to save the Planet is what I carry within me, the desire to think about every practical consequence of my simple actions in life.

Even simple behaviors are important, attention to simple recycling up to the choice of purchasing sustainable things is something we should never forget.

Beyond the magnificent guests I was able to meet "face to face", and even if the Gala formula may seem obvious, you should have been there to understand how much beauty and passion can communicate without speaking!

I would have liked to show you how art, music, entertainment and creativity and imagination in the hands of Mr. Milutin Gatsby, the man who organized the success of this event together with Prince Albert can obtain the great results that allow it to finance 530 important projects around the world. 530 with 62 million euros raised.

From the outside, the Gala may simply seem like a great and important social event, but in reality the commitment and passion I saw in celebrating, it says a lot about how much Prince Albert and Milutin Gatsby understand that from a single night depends on the support for a full year of useful projects for the planet.

And that the theme of safeguarding the Earth is a fundamental theme is proven by the approximately 300 beached whales in Australia that are slowly dying and all this only reinforces the desire and the noble purpose of this event:

Fighting deforestation, Supporting alternative solutions to the use of wood, Encouraging the spread of renewable energy and greater energy efficiency in less developed countries, Counteracting ocean acidification and its consequences, Building a government of the sea and oceans, Reduce the effects of global warming on biodiversity, Promote the management of humid climate zones and marine protected areas, Support conservation efforts for endangered species Promote integrated water resource management,

Everyone talked about the celebrities who attended from HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco, HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, Helen Mirren, Kate Beckinsale, Andy Garcia, singer Leona Lewis, Sting, Johnny Depp, Maisie Williams ("Game of Thrones"), Sienna Miller, Rebel Wilson and models such as Naomi Campbell, Alton Mason and the stylist Tommy Hilfiger etc ... and this "common feeling" and these guests who light up a lighthouse on the event, are just an opportunity to communicate the messages with the world positive of Prince Albert.

The real reasons behind this event, with amazing nightdresses, jewelry, flashes, champagne, and music, are just to create a special message for a special audience that, alone and in one night, it can do much more than you can imagine.

The Casino of Montecarlo is the perfect place, which has always been a machine in the center of riches and fantasies, and as always it presents itself to my eyes like a dream, in which the red Carpet of the Galà with all flashes on you, it gives such a strong shot of adrenaline that stuns you.

For a moment you feel important and time stops, suspended between shout of photographers - who you don’t listen to but love most of all - you hear your name ringing and you don’t understand what they are looking for from you and only you. A look, a smile, an “inclined leg” or a “plastic pose” towards the objectives, a “diva” look that at the same time makes you a child again when everyone cheered you at your birthday party.

Like the glow of a star that lights up the night, the moment is too short to be lived, and before you even realize what happened to you, the red carpet time is already over, and you have entered the Cocktail Areas where you go back to being a light in the starry sky of a night, where you will see "stars" bigger and brighter "than you.

But for me happiness is already being here and being able to admire all around a wonder and a beauty that overlap with other beauties where, walking among works of art and masked guests under the lights of the principality, make all this a film of which I want to capture all its most delicate shades.

A few steps far from my gaze Johnny Depp, Siena Miller, Andy Garcia etc and it doesn't seem true that they are here talking quietly, while Milutin Gatsy turns around observing that everything is perfect as only he can do.

The "Cocktail Zone" is a huge open-air art park where the pieces that will go up for auction during the evening are exhibited. A giant ball reminiscent of the New York planetarium stands out, through which we guests will enter an enchanted world that will lead us inside the earth to the depths of the sea and then travel in space-time to the Gala tables.

The scenography is true magic that every year is perpetuated in wonder and which sees the Montecarlo Gala overtakes itself every time for settings a
nd emotions. A setting worthy of Walt Disney Studios or Universal studios, which here is amplified because this is Montecarlo and everything around is true and real.

When the first glasses of Champagne rise, we walk into this tunnel made of walls that are sensitive to the touch of the hand, which react to it as if the immense mass of water around the underwater tunnel were kept away by a simple sheet of plastic.

The tunnel, which allows you to admire the seabed, leads to a giant hall on whose sky, that is, on your head, you see gigantic jellyfish and marine animals pass, and you understand that you arrived at the bottom of the sea which will then turn into a starry sky night. A wonderful fairy tale in which you get lost for its beauty and where dinner and the evening begin with all its ritual.

The prince and the princess, the master of ceremony Andy Garcia, the singers and the music, and the various speeches including the one of Jhonny Deep, and the evening slips by quickly between millionaire auction beats of dream pieces beaten and sold by indomitable auctioneer Simon De Pury. Simon is unique, and for me he is the greatest auctioneer in the world because he knows how to take people's emotions and he knows how to throw them into the fight that is generated to "offer more" and grab the piece at The auction.

He knows how to mix the charm of the valuable piece with an “oral” narration worthy of a TV commentator of a basketball or football match. He is able to thrill you even when you know that what he is trying to sell to the highest bidder is not stuff for normal "human beings", and when you see that the guest who is raising the auction price with a finger, is raising at one million euros for a piece of art or a used car in a James Bond film you understand that only he can do it in this context.

It is a great magic that is repeated every year and every time it fills my heart to know that the money raised will go to support important projects.

Thanks again to HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco and Milutin Gatsby who made this umpteenth great celebration.!!!!

An unforgettable night!!!
