ENGLISH EDITION - On February the14th, on St. Valentine's day, I will participate to the most glamour and spectacular event in the world of sport, the "Laureus World Sports Awards", born 15 years ago, that wants to celebrate the world of  sport trying to promote it as a tool to build bridges to overcome the social differences and to see the world from a different perspective. Behind Laureus there is an international foundation with various headquarters around the world, which aims to spread this belief into concrete actions realistically pursued by providing a total of 52 ambassadors, all former World Champions, whose give their time and their image working with the most underprivileged kids and carry out projects focused on giving sport a value as  educational tool.


ITALIAN EDITION - Il 14 febbraio, il giorno di San valentino parteciperò all'evento più glamour e spettacolare del mondo dello sport, il Laureus Sports Award, nato ormai 15 anni fa e che vuole celebrare il mondo dello sport cercando di valorizzarlo come strumento per costruire ponti che possono superare le differenze nella società e che possono aiutare a guardare il mondo in chiave diversa. Dietro il Laureus c’è una fondazione internazionale con svariate sedi nel mondo, che si preoccupa di tradurre questo credo in azioni operative e realisiticamente realizzabil mettendoa disposizione 52 ambasciatori, tutti ex campioni del mondo, che offrono il loro tempo e la loro immagine per lavorare con i ragazzi più disagiati e portare avanti progetti che possano utilizzare lo sport come strumento di salvaguardia e educazione.

ENGLISH EDITION -The members of "Laureus World Sports Academy", all former World Champions, vote by secret ballot to select the winner in each of the seven categories. This year has been introduced "an online preference" to reward the "Best Sporting Moment of the Year", where fans can vote the  preferred sporting moment through the viewing of videos. FAIR PLAY - January 5th:

sportsmanship isn’t dead as he advises Australian opponent Lleyton Hewitt to challenge an umpire’s decision

ENGLISH EDITION - At the Hopman Cup in Perth, Australia, US tennis player Jack Sock, leading 5:4 and 0-30, proves that sportsmanship isn’t dead as he advises Australian opponent Lleyton Hewitt to challenge an umpire’s decision that a service shot was out. Hewitt took Sock’s advice and asked for a review, when the shot was found to be in by officials. Hewitt went on to win the match 7-5, 6-4.

ITALIAN EDITION - FAIR PLAY - 5 gennaio:
Alla Hopman Cup a Perth, Australia, il tennista statunitense Jack Sock, che stava vincendo 5:4 e 0-30, dimostra che la sportività non è morta; infatti lui suggerisce al suo avversario, l’australiano Lleyton Hewitt, di contestare la decisione di un arbitro che aveva dichiarato fuori il suo servizio. Hewitt ha seguito il consiglio di Sock e ha chiesto una revisione del punto, che e’ stato dichiarato buono dal giudice. Hewitt ha quindi vinto la partita 7-5, 6-4.

the so-called ‘Icelandic thunder clap’, which has been likened to a Viking war chant

ENGLISH EDITION -“HUH”. The Icelandic national football team is met by a huge crowd in the country’s capital city of Reykjavik as they return from Euro 2016, where they sensationally reached the quarter-finals and knocked England out. The team travelled through the city on an open-top bus before holding a huge rally – during which the crowd of thousands took part in the so-called ‘Icelandic thunder clap’, which has been likened to a Viking war chant.

A young Portuguese boy embraced a sobbing French man after France lost the Euro 2016 final in Paris to Portugal. 'I told him it's only a game”, said 10-year-old Mathis, “'I even told him 'Mr, don't worry, France has played a very good game. You have played very well. It's you who deserved the cup but our goalie Rui Patricio didn't allow it.” The video went viral and melted a million hearts.

SPORTSMANSHIP - August 16th:

Hamblin tripped and fell, accidentally tripping up the USA’s D’Agostino too.

ENGLISH EDITION - Nikki Hamblin and Abbey D’Agostino were heralded for capturing the “Olympic spirit” when competing in the qualifying heat for the 5,000 metres. With 2,000 metres left to go, New Zealand athlete Hamblin tripped and fell, accidentally tripping up the USA’s D’Agostino too. The American soon got up and instead of running helped Hamblin before faltering on a clearly injured knee. D’Agostino later fell down again and so Hamblin helped her up and the two began to run the race together before embracing at the finish line. Both runners were awarded places in the final but D’Agostino was unable to participate due to the injury she sustained.
ITALIAN EDITION - SPORTIVITÀ - 16 agosto:
Nikki Hamblin e Abbey di D'Agostino sono state elogiati per aver ben rappresentato lo "spirito olimpico" durante le batterie di qualificazione per i 5.000 metri. A 2.000 dalla fine l’atleta della Nuova Zelanda Hamblin inciampa e cade facendo cadere accidentalmente l’atleta degli Stati Uniti D'Agostino. L'americana dopo essersi rialzata velocemente prima di ricominciare la gara  aiuta Hamblin che riporta feritevisibili ad un ginocchio. Più tardi la D'Agostino cade di nuovo e così Hamblin l'aiuta ad alzarsi e le due  cominciano a correre insieme prima di abbracciarsi al traguardo. Entrambe atlete ottengono un posto in finale, ma la D'Agostino non ha potuto parteciparvi a causa della ferita.

REMARKABLE - August 31th:

Barcelona’s under 12 team proved football consoling their Japanese rivals after beating them 1-0 in the final of the Junior Soccer World Challenge

ENGLISH EDITION - Barcelona’s under 12 team proved football really is a gentleman's game after they were consoling their Japanese rivals after beating them 1-0 in the final of the Junior Soccer World Challenge. Players from the local side Omiya Ardija looked visibly distraught at the final whistle, as the Barcelona team celebrated their win. It wasn't long before the Barcelona boys noticed and rushed to hug their rivals in a touching display of sportsmanship.
ITALIAN EDITION - ENCOMIABILE - 31 agosto:
La squadra del Barcellona Under 12 ha dimostrato che il calcio è davvero un gioco da gentiluomini dopo aver consolato i loro rivali giapponesi avendoli battuti 1-0 nella finale del Junior World Soccer Challenge. Al fischio finale i giocatori locali dell’ Omiya Ardija erano visibilmente sconvolti mentre la squadra del Barcellona celebrava la loro vittoria. Non passò molto tempo prima che i ragazzi del Barcellona si precipitassero ad abbracciarli in una dimostrazione toccante di sportività.

ENGLISH EDITION - Exhausted Briton Jonny Brownlee needed to be helped over the finish line by brother Alistair in a dramatic end to the Triathlon World Series in Cozumel, Mexico. Leading with 700m left, Jonny, 26, began to weave over the road in hot and humid conditions. Second-placed Alistair, 28, caught his brother, propping him up for the final couple of hundred metres before pushing him over the line in second place. They were overtaken by South African Henri Schoeman, the eventual winner. Victory in Mexico would have given Jonny the world title, but second place left him just four points behind Mario Mola.
ITALIAN EDITION - DRAMMATICO - 19 settembre:
Esausto, il britannico Jonny Brownlee è stato aiutato a passare la linea del traguardo dal fratello Alistair in una drammatica finale del Triathlon World Series a Cozumel, Messico. Stava conducendo la gare quando a 700 metri dal traguardo l’atleta, 26 anni , ha cominciato a barcollare a causa della stanchezza e del clima  caldo e umido.  A evitare che crollasse a terra è intervenuto il fratello Alistair, 28 anni, che lo ha preso sottobraccio e lo ha letteralmente trascinato fino al traguardo, dove è arrivato in seconda posizione, dietro al sudafricano Henri Schoeman. La vittoria in Messico avrebbe dato Jonny il titolo mondiale, ma il secondo posto lo ha lasciato a soli quattro punti di distacco da Mario Mola diventato poi campione del mondo del 2016 ITU World Triathlon Series .
